The glove season has started for us in North America since the end of September and will last through the winter and part of the spring. For us glove fetishists, it is the best time of the year. The Ladies get their leather gloves out of their drawers and put them on to protect their pretty hands from the cold, to add style to their wardrobe or both of these reasons.
As I work in a store, I consider myself priviledged because I get to see many beautiful Ladies wearing all kind of objects of desire: leather clothing, fur coats, leather or vynil boots (a lot!) and of course our beloved leather gloves.
One phenomenon always amaze me from year to year. The majority of the Ladies will quickly remove their gloves upon entering a store or any given place. It is done unconsciously, mechanically. The Lady enters, feels the warm air, pulls on each glove one by one to remove them and then puts them in her coat pockets or in her purse. Most Ladies will see the glove as a practical accessory and thus, will not feel the need to keep them on while inside. Those who see the glove as a fashion accessory may behave otherwise... and grab my attention.
Yesterday, this Lady came to the store where I work. She was in her early fifties, thin, elegant, beautiful raven black hair, dark red lipstick. She was walking with a cane, easily but not rapidly, and I had plenty of time to look at her hands: she was wearing beautiful burgundy leather gloves. She came to the counter and smiled. She wanted to pay some items. I rushed toward her to help, was very friendly with her and took my time to do some small talk so I could keep her as long as possible near me. She gave me the items she wanted to pay with her gloved hands, then shuffled in her purse to find her wallet. She took out a twenty dollar bill, handed it to me and I took it. Then my heart began to beat faster because the moment of truth was about to come: giving back the change! This, with the common handshake, are the best ways to touch a Ladies gloved hands and each time this occasion presents itself to me, it is the highlight of my day. Slowly, she extended her burgundy leather hand. I noticed the leather was a bit darknened inside the palm: red and brown tone gloves usually do that with wear. I gave her back the change and of course, briefly touched the leather. It felt incredibly smooth and soft. The Lady put the change in her wallet, the wallet in her purse, took her cane, said goodbye and disappeared. Little did she know that she completely wrecked my poor heart just by keeping her burgundy gloves on the whole time.
Now, this was not the first time I had such and encounter and, hopefuly, will not be the last. If it does not happen very often, it is because very few women have this philosophy about gloves as a true fashion accessory. I don't think these women are fetishists like we are. They just know that a beautiful pair of gloves has as much worth fashionwise as any other accessory or garment. Another factor that may contribute to the waning of these sighting with time is the fact that those glove loving Ladies, usually, tend to be in their fifties or sixties. Don't get me wrong: you know I love mature women. But it would also feel nice to see younger Ladies adopting the leather glove as a fashion accessory, realizing it's full potential and helping this habit survive. I'm not saying that just because I'm a glove fetishist. The leather glove is a beautiful accessory. A well crafted pair of gloves will enhance the look of the hand and will feel soft and fantastic to the touch for any person, fetishist or not.
So, Madam, unless you want to show us your newly done and colorful manucure, wear leather gloves and prove you are a true Lady.
